What’s going on with Anthony Martial?

Striker Anthony Martial’s attitude was criticized in Man Utd’s win over Bournemouth.

Last season, Antony Martial scored just one goal for the Red Devils . Martial spends a lot of time playing on the wing, but his best season, under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, is No. 9. With Cristiano Ronaldo’s future uncertain, Martial makes good use of the opportunity on the trip. summer fight.

For most of his career, Martial looked lacking in confidence but with Erik ten Hag, the former AS Monaco star was able to smile again. Not only scoring goals, this striker often goes deep and plays in association with teammates. He is a bright spot on Man Utd’s attack before the 2022/23 season.

Martial is showing bad form.

Man Utd did not expect the golden boy to play so well once. This is a positive sign because  Martial was often criticized before under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Jose Mourinho.

However, when everything is changing, and Ten Hag is believed to finally be able to help the French striker revive his career,  the striker is completely missing. Injury is a barrier preventing Martial from shining for the Old Trafford team.

Since his return, Martial has also failed to live up to expectations. Not to mention, Martial also has an attitude with coach Erik ten Hag. Before Bournemouth, the French striker was said to be disgruntled when he was substituted for Wout Weghorst in the 57th minute.

After being withdrawn to rest, Martial intended to drop into the tunnel. However, coach Erik ten Hag asked the student born in 1995 to return to sit in the technical area.

He immediately corrected Martial after the game: “He came back to the bench and said he was fine. I think he was going to go into the dressing room. Anyway, Martial had a good game.”

Martial’s attitude when being substituted.

No player likes to be substituted, especially when his time with the club is running out before his eyes. The former AS Monaco star also understands that Manchester United are looking to sign a striker or two this summer.

Martial needs to show why he deserves to be kept, or, at least, pursued by another club. Currently, that is not happening. Martial played badly, but was given opportunities only because Man Utd lacked strikers.

Martial has been involved continuously in the past few weeks and has only scored 2 goals in 11 appearances. During this period, he has never played a full 90 minutes. In fact, the last time Martial played the full 90 minutes for Man United was since September 2021 and in the Premier League was from January 2021, which is more than 2 years.

Martial could be coach Ten Hag’s choice in the FA Cup final against Man City . However, that does not mean the striker has a bright future at Old Trafford. Instead of sulking, Martial should cherish these precious opportunities.

Surely a sulky attitude will not be good for Martial.
