On BT Sport, Joe Cole pointed out the name that will hinder the promotion of Manchester United.
De Gea’s mistake in the 0-1 loss to West Ham has rekindled debate over his long-term future at Manchester United. The Spaniard is out of contract this summer but Erik ten Hag has confirmed he wants his student to put pen to paper on a new deal.
However, it feels like 32-year-old De Gea is past his prime and doesn’t fit Ten Hag’s style of play. Former England midfielder Joe Cole believes that De Gea can in fact prevent Man Utd from reaching its full potential under Ten Hag.
“I think it’s very simple for the Manchester United recruitment team. Appears a few teams around and above you, will any team trade their goalkeeper for David de Gea? No, they won’t. do that”.
‘So for me it was very simple. If Manchester United want to go to the next level, de Gea’s position is one of the positions where they can improve”.
