The club that won Serie A is relegated, in danger of bankruptcy

On the night of May 8, Sampdoria lost to Udinese 0-2, thereby officially being relegated 4 rounds early.

After 34 matches were played,  Sampdoria only had 17 points. With the remaining 4 rounds, the home team of Luigi Ferraris will not be able to stay in the relegation because they are 13 points behind the safe position.

Sampdoria’s 10-year journey in  Serie A  ended in a way that couldn’t be worse. In addition to having to play in Serie B next season, the Genoa-based team is in danger of defaulting due to financial difficulties lasting for many years.

Sampdoria were relegated just 48 hours after city team Genoa won the right to return to Serie A after a year of playing in the second division.

Sampdoria won the Italian championship in the 1990/91 season.

After the match, old man Fabio Quagliarella and teammates like Jese Rodriguez, Harry Winks went to the stands to thank the fans. Tears were shed on the faces of many players, but they understood that this was the inevitable end for their unconvincing performance this season. Winks, a player on loan from Tottenham is likely to also have to return to the host club because Sampdoria cannot afford to buy it permanently.

After Sampdoria, Cremonese is predicted to be the next team to be relegated to Serie B. The Cremona-based team has only 24 points, 6 points behind safety. Right above, Spezia (27 points) is also trying their best in the remaining 4 rounds in the hope of staying in Serie A next season.
