United’s injury crisis has worsened after Varane and Lisandro Martinez both suffered injuries following the Europa League draw with Sevilla.
Man United’s main centre-back pair, Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez, could not play the whole match against Sevilla. Varane was substituted after the break and Martinez left the field on a stretcher and could sustain a serious injury.
Sharing about the injuries of these two important players, coach Ten Hag said: “We have seen Martinez injured even though he did not collide with any opponent. So it looks like this is a serious case. We will have to wait. I can’t say what it is, but the problem is not with the heel.
I can’t say anything about Varane at this point either. I haven’t spoken to him after the game but it’s an injury he’s been complaining about for the past few weeks. We’ll see how the injury goes.”
Varane impressed in United’s overwhelming first half. The Frenchman won 100% of the duels and achieved a pass accuracy rate of 84%. In addition, Varane also blocked a chance of Sevilla on the goal line.
Coach Ten Hag’s changes in the second half did not work when Sevilla came back and equalized 2-2. Man United will be without many key players in the second leg in Spain in a week.
