The French media points to the coaches who can replace Christophe Galtier to lead PSG in the 2023/24 season.
Jose Mourinho is a strong candidate to become the captain of PSG next season. The close relationship between the Portuguese coach and Luis Campos, PSG’s sporting director, is also a big reason for this deal to happen.
Mourinho and Campos have known each other since “The Special One” was at university in Portugal. The two worked together at Real Madrid.
However, according to AS, Qatar owners will have the power to decide on a new coach for PSG instead of putting their faith in Mr. Campos’ choice. In the summer of 2022, this sporting director asked the PSG leadership to recruit coach Galtier, but the results were disappointing .
Besides Mourinho, Marcelo Gallardo is also another strong candidate. After parting with River Plate, this strategist wants to try his hand at Europe. This 47-year-old coach has 3 times won the best coach award in South America in the period 2018-2020. Mr. Gallardo is behind 1 national championship, 2 Copa Libetadores and a series of other big and small titles with River Plate. However, Mr. Gallardo’s limitation is that he has no experience working in Europe.
Thiago Motta is another option. This former player played for PSG in the period 2012-2018, appearing in 166 matches and scoring 8 goals. Motta currently leads Bologna in Serie A. Motta’s drawback is little experience working with world-class stars. PSG must compete with Napoli and Nice to recruit Motta.
The final candidate considered by PSG is Abel Feirrera. Mr. Campos assessed that Palmeiras’ coach is very strong and can revive PSG at this time. However, Qatari owners do not appreciate this option. The PSG leadership team wants to find a coach of the caliber and experience working in the Champions League.
