Diogo Costa, goalkeeper wearing the Portugal national team shirt, was chosen by MU as a replacement for De Gea from next season.
According to Manchester Evening News, Man United no longer hesitated but chose Diogo Costa as a long-term solution to replace David De Gea.
The Portuguese goalkeeper said he is still happy at Porto . However, these statements do not mean much, because MU does not intend to negotiate with Porto but will spend 72.4 million euros to release Costa’s contract.
With this price, Costa will become the second most expensive goalkeeper in history, behind only Kepa Arrizabalaga, when this star joined Chelsea for 80 million euros. The second most expensive goalkeeper to date is Alisson Becker (62.5 million euros).
Costa kept 16 clean sheets for Porto in the Portuguese league last season. The star born in 1999 impressed Man United thanks to his ability to play with his feet and impressive statistics, notably conceding only 22 goals after 33 matches.
Man United will still keep David De Gea next season. However, coach Erik ten Hag said he could not guarantee the student born in 1990 the main starting position in the next season.
