Man United have chosen a replacement for De Gea

Diogo Costa, goalkeeper wearing the Portugal national team shirt, was chosen by MU as a replacement for De Gea from next season.

According to Manchester Evening News, Man United no longer hesitated but chose Diogo Costa as a long-term solution to replace David De Gea.

The Portuguese goalkeeper said he is still happy at Porto . However, these statements do not mean much, because MU does not intend to negotiate with Porto but will spend 72.4 million euros to release Costa’s contract.

Costa can take Ederson as an example to develop his career. Before coming to Man City, Ederson also played for Benfica.

With this price, Costa will become the second most expensive goalkeeper in history, behind only Kepa Arrizabalaga, when this star joined Chelsea for 80 million euros. The second most expensive goalkeeper to date is Alisson Becker (62.5 million euros).

Costa kept 16 clean sheets for Porto in the Portuguese league last season. The star born in 1999 impressed Man United thanks to his ability to play with his feet and impressive statistics, notably conceding only 22 goals after 33 matches.

Man United will still keep David De Gea next season. However, coach Erik ten Hag said he could not guarantee the student born in 1990 the main starting position in the next season.

“Although we are on the right track, we still need to improve at a few moments in the game. This is the next step towards titles,” coach Ten Hag said when asked about De’s future. Gea after the FA Cup final.

To own Costa, MU also has to compete with two heavyweights, Chelsea and Newcastle.
