Coach Xavi affirmed that La Liga is the more important arena after Barca lost to Real Madrid in the semi-finals of the King’s Cup.
Real Madrid made an incredible comeback when they knocked Barca 4-0 at Camp Nou to knock Barca out of the King’s Cup arena. Karim Benzema scored a hat-trick alongside a Vinicius Junior goal late in the first half.
After 3 consecutive wins in the Super Classic, the 0-4 defeat against Real Madrid was difficult for Xavi’s teachers and students to swallow. After this match, coach Xavi soothed the students by affirming that La Liga is still the more important arena.
“Now we need to focus on La Liga, which is more important than the Copa del Rey. We have 11 finals in La Liga.”
Xavi also regretted that Barca could not take advantage of opportunities in the first half and the squad lacked a few important players.
“This is Real Madrid. In the first half, they didn’t dominate the game and we created more chances. But they were the team that scored the first goal. We know that. That’s how they won the Champions League last year. This is not an excuse, but I would love to have injured players on the team.”
Center-back Ronald Araujo also shared the opinion of coach Xavi and said that the La Liga championship is more important.
“It’s a hard defeat, but I’m sure it won’t affect us much. Our most important goal is to win La Liga, after so many years of nothing.”
