Former player Chris Sutton has criticized Kepa after failing to stop Marco Asensio’s long-range kick during Real Madrid’s match against Chelsea.
Real Madrid took the lead in the 21st minute of the quarter-final first leg of the Champions League 2022/23. Karim Benzema opened the scoring for Los Blancos. In the 74th minute, substitute Marco Asensio made the score 2-0 for the home team.
From a corner, the ball was passed to Marco Asensio, from outside the box the player born in 1996 made a very long shot, the ball went past the feet of defender Wesley Fofana. Goalkeeper Kepa seems to have touched the ball but not enough to save.

Former player Chris Sutton has criticized Kepa after failing to stop Marco Asensio’s long-range kick. “Real Madrid’s second goal, Kepa has to do much better in my opinion,” he said. In high-level games like this, goalkeepers have to save from shots like that.”
“If Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois had been in the Chelsea goal, he would have saved it. It was an important moment because if Chelsea had only lost 1-0 then the task would have been much easier in the second leg. 2-0 will be very difficult because of the attacking talent that Real Madrid has.”
Sutton also complained about an early chance missed by Joao Felix, adding: “Joao Felix had a chance to open the scoring very early, unfortunately he couldn’t take it. He had a good position to shoot, but he couldn’t score. It was a big missed opportunity, if it had been a goal it would have been very different.”
