How did the 6 Real Madrid players bought with Hazard perform?

Eden Hazard has been a big disappointment after coming to Real Madrid in 2019. How about the other 6 deals done by the Royal Spanish Club that summer?

Alphonse Areola

Areola went to Madrid on loan from PSG and in 2022, he was sold out to West Ham for 12 million euros .

Belonging to PSG from 2017 to 2019, Areola could not claim the No. 1 position before the competition of Kevin Trapp and Gianluigi Buffon. When Keylor Navas arrived in Paris from Real to become the French club’s number one goalkeeper, Areola went to the Bernabeu in the opposite direction for a season, but only as a backup for Thibaut Courtois. At West Ham, Areola also continues to have to get used to the bench.

Areola has a reserve fate?

Eder Militao

Brazilian midfielder arrived at the Bernabeu from Porto in 2019 for about 50 million euros. He is widely regarded as one of the best young centre-backs in Europe, and is a potential option to challenge Sergio Ramos’ position.

Militao struggled to usurp Ramos and Raphael Varane, but eventually found himself a regular in the first team under Carlo Ancelotti, forming a superb defensive partnership with David Alaba.

Luka Jovic

The Serbia international arrived at Real Madrid from Eintracht Frankfurt and is considered one of the most promising strikers in Europe. But he was inexplicably faded in the white Vulture shirt.

Injuries somewhat hindered Jovic’s career at Real. He lacked consistency, lost his instinct to score goals in La Liga. In the 2020-21 season, this striker was loaned to Frankfurt, but only scored 4 goals in the Bundesliga in the season Frankfurt ranked 5th.

Zinedine Zidane does not want to use Jovic and neither does Ancelotti. Finally, Jovic moved to Fiorentina last summer and has scored six goals in 31 Serie A games.

Ferland Mendy

Ferland Mendy was relatively successful at Real.

Mendy joined Real from Lyon for around €50 million as a backup and long-term successor to Marcelo. That plan has come to fruition, with Mendy being selected before the club’s captain throughout the 2021-22 campaign – including the Champions League final.

The 27-year-old has struggled with injuries this season but remains a valuable asset to the Spanish royal club.

Rodrygo

Rodrygo was signed by Real from Santos as the ‘next Neymar’ and is still developing his potential at Real. The young Brazilian winger had some impressive moments early in his career with the White Vuls, such as the perfect hat-trick against Galatasary in the Champions League in 2019, the goal in the net. Inter Milan in 2020 and a brace against Man City in 2022.

Rodrygo is still lacking consistency, but the 22-year-old is constantly improving.

Alberto Soro

Alberto Soro sounds strange. The young Spanish midfielder signed for Real after an impressive breakout season for boyhood club Real Zaragoza. He was then loaned back to Zaragoza for the 2019-20 season.

A year later, when still not playing with the first team of the White Vultures, the 23-year-old was sold to Granada and has been playing continuously since.
