Sergio Busquets revealed the US could be his next stop after parting with a top football career in Europe.
“My next chapter in my career will be away from Europe. At this age and with what I’ve done, I don’t think that (looking for a new challenge in Europe) is necessary. And neither do I. I’m not sure I can face Barca in any important game or title,” Busquets was quoted as saying by The Athletic .
“I don’t want to play for many more years. Life in the US is what my husband and I really enjoy. But in the end, we have to consider all aspects such as the club’s sports project, the economy, the quality of life. From there, we can make a decision,” the former Barca midfielder left open about the future.
Busquets parted ways with Barca after the 2022/23 season ended. Coach Xavi Hernandez wants to keep his old teammate for another season. In January, the former Spain international revealed that “Busquets has full control over the future”. However, the two sides could not agree to extend the contract.
Busquets started playing at Barca in 2008 and has been an integral part of this club for nearly two decades. This 34-year-old player contributed to helping the Catalan club win 32 titles, including 9 La Liga and 3 Champions League.
Busquets’ next destination has yet to be revealed. Teams in Saudi Arabia and the US are interested in this defensive midfielder.
